Open Studio
Arrangements of personal detritus such as receipts, greeting cards, photographs, wrappers, cardboard, stickers, labels, dog hair, dust, etc., Open Studio explores how our consumer habits permeate our identities and everyday existence. It is a collection of items displaying an average life within transition, a failing economy, lawless society, and corrupt powers structures. The exhibition-scale journal of junk is a fluid reflection of studio space, inner thoughts, memories, and exchanges. The work presents the physicality of quotidian domesticity, capitalist rut, queer love, mental anguish, and accompanying existential dread. Challenging the material transactionalization of our practices and relationships, Open Studio is a testament of living today as a labor of love and heartache, in its revolving degrees of despair and celebration.
